The Aegis Protocol was created during the Alien Wars, when humanity built a vast robot army to defend Earth from space invaders. With their power, the invaders were pushed back and mankind survived.

But after the war, the army divided into two groups. One side the Aegis remained loyal to humanity, choosing to protect and preserve peace. The other, led by a rising commander, became the Dominion. Their leader saw humans as weak and demanded full control of the robot legions, planning a new war to strike back at the invaders.
